COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State fencing team plays host to the OSU Duals Nov. 1 at the French Field House in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes will compete against eight squads in seven rounds at the all-day event.
Eight Travel to Columbus
Ohio State welcomes eight teams to Columbus, including Bowling Green, Case Western Reserve, Chicago, Cleveland State, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue and Wayne State.

Buckeyes Finish No. 4
The 2003 fencing squad finished the season No. 4 in the nation for the second-consecutive year. The Buckeyes posted 167 total points at the 2003 NCAA Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. Notre Dame placed first (182 points) at the event, followed by Penn State (179) and St. John’s (171).
The men’s team closed the season with a 21-2 record, while the women posted a 20-2 mark.
Key Returnees
Key returnees for the 2003-04 Buckeyes include, Adam Crompton (So., Newark, N.J.), Alexander Law (So., Cincinnati, Ohio), Kitz Siebert (Sr., Lawrence, Kan.), Louise Bond-Williams (Jr., Gloucestershire, England), Alexandra Shklar (Sr., Jerusalem, Israel), Hanna Thompson (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) and Metta Thompson (Rochester, N.Y.).
2004 Season at a Glance
Vladimir Nazlymov, in his fifth year at the helm of the Ohio State fencing team, expects his squad to challenge for the national championship.
“This season I strongly believe that we are ready to be first (in the nation),” Nazlymov said. “Of course it is hard, but with (our returnees) and our new recruits we will be ready for anything.”
Crompton Claims Title
Sophomore Buckeye Adam Crompton claimed the national championship in men’s sabre at the 2003 NCAA Fencing Championships March 23 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Crompton defeated Ivan Lee Smith of St. John’s, 15-13, to capture Ohio State’s first gold medal since 1997.
Crompton and Rogers In Pan-Ams
Adam Crompton and Jason Rogers made an appearance in the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic as members of the United States fencing team. The U.S. team had its best-ever finish with a total of 11 medals, which marked the highest medal count among all competing nations.
Rogers won the bronze medal in men’s individual sabre. Crompton and Rogers, both representatives on the U.S. men’s sabre team, helped to lead the team to a 45-30 gold medal victory over Venezuela.
Rogers and Shklar Earn Bronze
Buckeyes Jason Rogers and Alexandra Shklar each won the bronze medal match at the 2003 NCAA Fencing Championships March 23.
Rogers won his medal in the sabre competition, while Shklar won her medal in epee.
World Championships
Four Buckeyes competed in the 2003 Junior/Cadet World Championships in Trapani, Italy.
Adam Crompton finished seventh in individual men’s sabre while Hanna Thompson placed eighth in women’s foil.
Jason Rogers and Metta Thompson helped lead the U.S. men’s sabre and women’s foil teams to a second and third overall finish.
Looking Ahead
The Buckeyes are back in action at the Northwestern Duals Nov. 14-16 in Evanston, Ill.
