COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 18 Ohio State field hockey team (10-5; 2-1 Big Ten) defeated the Miami Redhawks (1-12; 0-6 MAC), 8-0, Wednesday at Miami Turf Field in Oxford, Ohio. Lucy Clayton (Jr.; Scarborough, England) led the team in scoring with three goals, while forwards Lauren Kruse (Fr.; Toledo, Ohio), Vanessa Immordino (Sr.; Roseland, N.J.) and Curlyne Wynn (Fr.; Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago) rounded out the Buckeye scorers.
OSU went on an offensive attack in the first half, as it put four goals on the board. Clayton posted two goals, including the Buckeyes’ first score at the 2:34 mark on a penalty corner. Immordino and defenseman Cammie Trainer (Jr.; Hudson, Ohio) were credited with the assists. The Buckeyes never looked back, as Wynn and Kruse each contributed a goal to end the first half.
In the second half, Wynn continued OSU’s scoring frenzy with an unassisted goal from the left wing at 42:30. Immordino added two more goals during the half, while Clayton tallied her third and final goal off a penalty corner.
OSU goalie Lindsay Williams (So.; Harrisburg, Pa.) posted five saves, while Miami goalkeeper Kerri Matthews recorded 13. The Buckeyes outshot the Redhawks, 35-7, and took 10 more penalty corners (13-3).
Ohio State faces the Indiana Hoosiers at noon Saturday at North Turf Field, while the home finale against the No. 5 Michigan Wolverines takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday.
