Fencers Compete At San Diego North American Cup – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio-Members of the Ohio State fencing team competed this weekend at the US Fencing North American Cup in San Diego, Calif. Overall, 19 different Buckeyes competed at the individual competition, seven of whom placed in the Top 20 of their respected events.
The event was the second of three North American Cups this season which gives athletes around the world an opportunity to earn a spot on the U.S. team and compete at the World Championships in Havana, Cuba in October 2003.
Louise Bond-Williams (So., Gloucestershire, England) continued her pace of top finishes, placing third in women’s sabre after she tied for third at the NAC-Columbus competition in January. Hanna Thompson (So., Rochester, N.Y.) tied for third in women’s foil while her sister, Metta Thompson (So., Rochester, N.Y.) came in seventh. Alexandra Shklar (Jr., Jerusalem, Israel) came in at No. 11 in women’s epee.
On the men’s side, Jason Rogers (So., Los Angeles, Calif.), Adam Crompton (Fr., Newark, N. J.) and Colin Parker (Jr., Fayetteville, Ga.) all turned in solid performances in sabre. Parker finished tied for third, Rogers fifth and Crompton ninth.
The team will be back in action this weekend when it plays host to the Ohio State Duals, Jan. 25-26 at French Field House.
