Two Buckeye Rowers Earn All-America Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio– Conny Kirsch (Sr., Potsdam, Germany/Helmholtz Gymnasium) capped off her decorated Buckeye career by becoming just the second Ohio State rower to be named a First Team All-American, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced Tuesday. Kirsch, who is the 2002 Big Ten Rowing Co-Athlete of the Year, was named a second team All-American in 2001.
“Conny has been the engine that has propelled us to the Top Five for the last two years,” Andy Teitelbaum, Ohio State head coach, said. “I’m glad to see that she has been recognized by the coaches around the country.”
Kirsch is joined by Karla Fiserova (So., Jindrichuv Hradec, Czech Republic/Obchodni Akademie TGM), the 2002 Ohio State Most Valuable Rower, who was named to the 2002 Second Team All-America squad.
Both Kirsch and Fiserova were named First Team All-Big Ten and earned first team all-central region accolades in 2002. The regional honor was the fourth for Kirsch.
Teitelbaum said Kirsch’s contributions will be missed.
“Of course you’re going to miss somebody who has meant to much to us and has been such a big part of our program for four years,” he said. “Fortunately, because of the groundwork that she laid in terms of her ability and her work ethic, we’ve had other athletes that have learned from her and can keep things going now that she is gone.”
