Buckeye Runner Glaz Finishes 16th at World Junior Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dan Glaz (So., Palos Hills, Ill./A. A. Stagg), a member of the Ohio State men’s track and field team, recently competed in the 10,000-meter run at the IAAF/Coca-Cola World Junior Championships held in Kingston, Jamaica, July 16-21, where he finished 16th in the race of 20 competitors. Glaz earned a spot in the world event after capturing the title in the same event at the United States Track & Field (USTF) Junior National Championships, June 21-23 in Palo Alto, Calif.
Glaz completed the world race in 32.22.13 and was the second American to cross the finish line after Charles Millioen (Georgetown) made the circuit in 32:03.71. A pair of Ethiopian runners captured the gold and silver medals as Gebre-egziabher Gebremariam won the event with a time of 29:02.71 and fellow countryman Sileshi Sihine trailing closely behind at 29:03.74. Solomon Bushendich of Kenya, the leader for much of the race, took the bronze with a time of 29:05.96.
Jack Warner, OSU assistant track and field coach, was a member of the coaching staff for the United States team that captured 21 medals, the most at the competition, along with the most gold and silver medals at nine and five, respectively. In the medal standings, China and Jamaica tied for second with 11 medals each and Russia secured 10, rounding out the teams that broke double-digits in the medal count.
