Stanford, OSU Tied In Team Prelim – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$In a rare case of synchronized d©j vu, Stanford and Ohio State tied in the%^$team free routine preliminary event on Friday at the 26th annual U.S.%^$Collegiate Synchronized Swimming Championships in Norton, Mass.%^$
%^$Ohio State set the day’s high mark of 96.500 just four routines into the%^$competition. Stanford came along, swimming 20th, to tie the mark and set up%^$an all-out dash for the overall trophy when finals get underway Saturday at%^$10:20 a.m.%^$
%^$The same two teams tied at 97.267 in team prelims a year ago at the%^$collegiate championships, with Ohio State pulling off a team event victory%^$in the final and earning the Buckeyes’ 21st overall Collegiate championship.%^$Swimming for Ohio State were current or former U.S. National Teamers%^$Victoria Bowen, Mary Hofer, Suzanna Hyatt, and Kim Lester, plus Brazilian%^$Olympian Isabela Moraes, and Beth Kreimer, Lindsay Newbill and Kristin%^$Price.%^$
%^$Stanford fielded six U.S. National Teamers in Erin Dobratz, Amanda%^$Graff-Baker, Stephanie Joukoff, Jennifer Kibler, Katie Norris and Lindsey%^$Wigginton, plus Shella Sadovnik and Joanne Taylor.%^$
%^$Host Wheaton (Mass.) College’s “Batman” routine edged rival Richmond and%^$Canisius B to qualify for the final in seventh place with a score of 86.083,%^$making Wheaton the top placing Division III university. Swimming for Wheaton%^$was Blair Feldman, Bevin Hughes, Elizabeth Maga, Jamie Olken, Emily Padow,%^$Beth Percy and Jamie Sallier.%^$
%^$The top eight entries from preliminary rounds advance to Saturday’s finals.%^$
%^$More than 200 athletes from 22 universities are competing for collegiate%^$national titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events. The championships%^$are an open-class meet, combining competition for NCAA Divisions I, II and%^$III, plus NAIA schools.%^$
%^$The Ohio State University is attempting to win its third consecutive, and%^$22nd overall title in the 26th year of the championships. Top athletes%^$advance to the U.S. National Championships and 2002 U.S. National Team%^$Trials, April 18-20 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.%^$
%^$Competition continues Saturday at 10:20 a.m. with finals in all events. All%^$events take place at Balfour Natatorium on the campus of Wheaton College in%^$Norton, Mass.%^$
