Brown Scores Career High
Ohio State senior guard Brian Brown scored a career high 33 points to lead the Buckeyes to a 69-64 win over Davidson in the first round the 2002 NCAA Tourament in Albuquerque, N.M. His 13-of-19 shooting from the field set career highs in both made and attempted field goals. His 33 points are the second most in NCAA tournament play for an Ohio State player behind the 36 scored by Jerry Lucas against Western Kentucky in 1960. Lucas also holds the record for field goals made in an NCAA tournament game with 14 against both Western Kentucky and Kentucky (1961). Brown was two points shy of Ohio State’s Top 50 scoring games. The last Ohio State player to score 33 or more points was Doug Etzler, who scored 37 points against George Mason (1/8/95).
Brown Moves Up NCAA Scoring Chart
Brown has scored 88 career points in NCAA tournament play, which ranks eighth all time behind the 91 scored by Dennis Hopson (1995-1997).
Brown Joins 500-Point Club
With his 33 points against Davidson, Brian Brown eclipsed the 500-point mark (501) for the season to become just the 21st Buckeye to reach 500 points in a single season. The 500-point mark has been reached 33 times overall in Ohio State history.
Brown No. 2 in Career Games Played
With his 97-consecutive start, Brian Brown moved into the No. 2 spot in career games played at Ohio State. Brown has played 128 career games and trails only Jerry Francis (1986-89) in career games played (133). Brown also is tied with Jim Jackson in the No. 7 position in career assists with 372. Ohio State is 37-20 in NCAA tournament play. In 22 NCAA tournament appearances, Ohio State has won its first game 19 times with just three losses in opening-round action. The Buckeyes are 9-10 in their previous 19 second games.
O’Brien Improves NCAA Record
Ohio State head coach Jim O’Brien has taken seven teams to the NCAA Tounament in his 20-year coaching career. O’Brien is 6-3 in NCAA tournament play in the last four seasons at Ohio State. O’Brien has a career record of 102-56 in five years at Ohio State and an overall record of 337-273, which includes 11 seasons at Boston College.
Dials Adds Career High
Freshman Terence Dials scored a career-high 18 points against Davidson and nearly recorded his first double-double. His nine rebounds vs. the Wildcats were a team high. Dials’ career high in rebounds is 13 against Louisville.
Buckeyes Evens Series with Davidson
The Buckeyes evened the all-time series with Davidson at three wins apiece with the victory Thursday. Davidson won the first three meetings with Ohio State winning the last three. Ohio State is now 9-4 all-time against teams representing the Southern Conference.

Ohio State Looks to Even Series With Missouri
Ohio State and Missouri have not met since the 1984 non-conference season. The Buckeyes broke a three-game losing streak to the Tigers with an 88-77 win in Columbus (12/22/84). The teams have never met at a neutral site. Ohio State is 2-3 in games played in Columbus and 2-2 in Columbia, Mo. Ohio State, ranked No. 14 in the final Associated Press Poll, is 1-1 as a ranked team vs. the Tigers.
Ohio State and Missouri Share a Pair of Common Big Ten Opponents
Both Ohio State and Missouri played Iowa and Illinois before beginning NCAA tournament play. Ohio State was a combined 5-0 vs. the Illini (2-0) and Iowa (3-0).
