Synchronized Swimming Fares Well At UAB, Michigan Invite – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team fared well in two competitions over the weekend. The Buckeyes, split between two locations, defeated the University of Alabama-Birmingham Saturday (Feb. 2) in Alabama and posted a first-place finish in the Michigan Invitational Sunday (Feb. 3) in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Buckeyes defeated UAB, 88-78, Saturday. Mary Hofer (Sr., Spring Valley, Calif.) earned top honors in the solo event with a score of 94.333. Isabela Moraes (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Carolina Moraes (Sr., San Paulo, Brazil) finished first in the duet with a score of 94.666 while Hofer and the Moraes sisters teamed up to win the trio event with a score of 93.667. In the team competition, OSU topped UAB with a routine score of 93.833.
OSU notched first-place honors at Michigan’s Maize and Blue Invitational with a score of 102, knocking off second place Stanford (99) and third place Walsh (74). Heather Burdick (Fr., Walnut Creek, Calif./Northgate) finished second in the solo event while Sharon Mejia (Jr., Vallejo, Calif./Ygnacio Valley), Stacey Coffman (Fr., Walnut Creek, Calif./Northgate) and Burdick finished second in the trio. Teammates Laura Green (Fr., Indianapolis, Ind.), Bethany Galla (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and Isla Turner (Fr., Key Largo, Fla./Coral Shores) were third in the same event while Leilani Torres (Sr., San Juan, Puerto Rico/Puerto Rico) and Katie Meyer (So., Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills) placed third in the duet. The Buckeyes also earned a second-place finish in the team competition.
Ohio State will return to action Saturday when it plays host to the OSU College Association Meet at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center in Larkins Hall.
