Dan Glaz, a sophomore on the men’s cross country team earnedSecond Team All-Big Ten honors for his team-best 11th place finishat the Big Ten Championships Sunday. He helped the Buckeyes to asecond-place finish, their highest since 1977.

Ohio State will play host to the 2002 Big Ten Field HockeyTournament this weekend at the North Turf Field. The competitionbegins Friday, with games at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. The Buckeyes,the No. 4 seed, will face Iowa in the noon game Friday. Saturday,the games will be held at noon and 2 p.m., with the championshiptilt set for noon Sunday. The men’s hockey team went 1-1-0 over theweekend, falling to No. 7/8 Cornell, 3-1, Friday before beatingColgate, 6-2, Sunday. Against the Raiders, the squad had afive-goal outburst in the first period en route to the victory.Freshman Ryan Kesler led the team with four points on the weekend,including a team-high three points Sunday, and was named CCHARookie of the Week for his performance. Scoring goals for theBuckeyes over the weekend were R.J. Umberger, Daymen Bencharski,Chris Olsgard, JB Bittner, Kesler, Dan Knapp and Miguel Lafleche.Bill Wadley, OSU’s men’s swimming and diving head coach, will tryfor his 125th win at Ohio State when the team travels toMorgantown, W.Va to take on West Virginia and Louisville Friday at5 p.m. at the WVU Natatorium. Wadley’s record stands at 123-20after the team began the season with a 138-92 victory over Ohio.Women’s volleyball (11-10 overall, 5-7 Big Ten) defeatedNorthwestern 3-2 (23-30, 32-30, 25-30, 30-27, 15-8) and lost to No.15 Wisconsin 3-1 (18-30, 30-22, 23-30, 30-32) in road matches lastweekend. OSU begins a four-match home stand this weekend withcontests against Michigan Fri., Nov. 8 and Michigan State Sat.,Nov. 9. OSU’s Suzie Stiling moved to eighth on the OSU career killslist last week and now has 1,253 kills. Stiling has also moved tofourth on the OSU career total blocks list with 402 blocks (59solo, 343 assists). Stacey Gordon extended her streak ofdouble-figure kill matches to 37 with 19 at Northwestern and 20 atWisconsin. Gordon has 992 career kills and needs eight to becomethe 15th Buckeye to reach 1,000 career kills. She currently standsat 15th on the OSU career kills list. The rowing team concludes itsfall season Sunday with a trip to the Rivanna Romp inCharlottesville, Va. The team won the first varsity 8 competitionlast year at the Romp and will look to defend its title againstVirginia, Columbia, Clemson and North Carolina. The men’s andwomen’s cross country teams finished competition at the Big TenChampionships Sunday Nov. 3 in West Lafayette, Ind. The menfinished the event in second place while the women finished 10th.The men’s finish of second marks their highest finish since 1977.At the conclusion of the meet men’s cross country team members DanGlaz, Derrick Butler and Aaron Fisher were awarded Second TeamAll-Big Ten honors. The men’s golf team concluded its fall seasonat the Aztec Invitational placing seventh. During the fall seasonthe men had their best finish at the Gary Koch Invitational wherethey finished fourth. Junior Zach Doran was the top Buckeye golferof the fall season compiling a scoring average of 69.8. Doran alsoshot under par six times during the fall season including an8-under par, 64 at the Gary Koch Invitational. Jeremy Wurtzman, ajunior on the men’s tennis team, advanced to the semifinals of theITA Midwest Regional IV Championship in Madison, Wis. last week. Hefell to Phil Stolt of Illinois 7-5, 6-4. Wurtzman, ranked No. 21 inthe nation, leaves Wednesday for Dallas, Texas, to compete in theNational Intercollegiate Indoors Thursday-Sunday. The women’sswimming team is headed to Morgantown, W.Va., Friday to competeagainst WVU and Louisville. Head coach Jeanne Fleck is very excitedabout the team’s season-opening victory over Ohio University and isexcited to compete this weekend. “The win over Ohio was veryimportant for us and it sets the mindset for our team to takeanother win, ” Fleck said. The women’s soccer team (7-10-1, 4-5-1),winners of three of its final four Big Ten regular season matches,opens Big Ten Tournament action at Michigan State’s Old CollegeField Thursday at 10 a.m. against No. 24 Michigan (13-5-1, 7-2-1).The seventh-seeded Buckeyes face the No. 2-seed Wolverines in arematch of a tightly contested 1-0 UM victory in Ann Arbor on Oct.6. The women’s ice hockey team finished the weekend with a tie anda loss to Bemidji State. The Buckeyes tied the Beavers 1-1 inovertime Friday and lost 4-2 Saturday. Sophomore Jeni Creary scoredOSU’s lone goal Friday. Creary continues to lead the Buckeyes with12 points (five goals and seven assists). Freshmen Jana Harriganand Crystal Sayther scored OSU’s goals in game two. The Buckeyesare 2-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the WCHA this season. OSU hasoutshot its opponents 230-209. The Buckeyes have tallied 17 goalsand 28 assists, averaging 2.1 goals per game. Ohio State faces No.1 Minnesota -Duluth at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the OSU IceRink in Columbus.
