Ohio State head coach Jim O’Brien
On the game:
“Our guys were prepared from the start. I was happy with the performance of the starters. We got sloppy defensively and they forced us into some turnovers. We played efficient offense. There was no clowning around with how we prepared for them. Our guys respected them and that is why I think it was a good game for us. For our guys to be able to guard them was a good thing. We did a good job not giving up 3-pointers and putting pressure on them. We got a lot of guys minutes and were able to try different combinations. I was surprised on how this game was so lopsided. I was happy, not because of the score, but because of how we played.
On Brent Darby:
“He played great. Looking at his stats, many would say he had a great game, but he was concerned about his five turnovers. That shows a lot of maturity.”
Freshman forward Matt Sylvester
“It was a good win for us tonight. Our shots were falling. We jumped on them early, making it difficult for them to come back. My back felt good tonight and I would say I am about 85 percent. In about another week or so, I should be up to 100 percent. I think I bring a spark off the bench. It was fun to play the Globetrotters.”
Senior guard Sean Connolly
“Some spots (during the game) were a little shaky in the first half. Overall, I think we played well. We jumped off to an early lead and we played well defensively.”
Sophomore center Terence Dials
“(Coach O’Brien) just told us to play hard. This is the Globetortters last game of the season, so he said ‘they are probably going to come out and play hard, and try to get a victory to close out the season.’ We did not want them to get the win on our floor, so we just tried to go out and play as hard we could. Good things happened for us tonight. “We made our cuts hard and concentrated on setting good picks. We just made baskets. Our guards hit threes and our big men finished inside.”
Senior guard Brent Darby
“Our stuff was working pretty well early in the game. We executed our offense well. We had a couple spots where we did not play well. We had a lot of turnovers in the second half and we have to cut down on that. All in all, we played well.
“We could be a little more advanced, but I am satisfied so far. I am eager to get into practice tomorrow and work on getting better.”
