Fencers Successful At Penn State Duals – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio- The Ohio State men’s and women’s fencing teams were very successful at the Penn State dual meets on Saturday. The No. 6 women went 4-1 on the day while the No. 8 men went 3-2.
The women were victorious against Hunter (23-4), No. 11 Pennsylvania (17-10), No. 15 Duke (18-9) and No. 16 North Carolina (21-6) while dropping a tough one to No.3 Penn State (13-14).
The men were triumphant over Hunter (26-1), No. 16 Duke (18-9), and No. 15 North Carolina (19-8). They dropped two decisions to No. 9 Pennsylvania (13-14) and No. 3 Penn State (11-16).
The women dominated Hunter, winning sabre, 8-1, foil, 6-3 and epee, 9-0. Against Pennsylvania they swept all three again, winning sabre and foil, 5-4 and epee, 7-2. They next defeated Duke, winning 6-3 in all three bouts. Against UNC the Buckeyes scored victories in sabre, 8-1, foil, 6-3 and epee, 7-2. The Buckeyes only recorded one win against Penn State, winning the foil, 6-3. They dropped in sabre, 4-5 and in epee, 3-6.
The men were in control vs. Hunter as well, winning sabre, 9-0, foil, 8-1 and epee, 9-0. Against Duke, the sabre team won 7-2, foil, 5-4 and epee, 6-3. Its third victory came against UNC, winning sabre, 9-0, foil and epee, 5-4. Against Pennsylvania the Buckeyes won in sabre (8-1) and epee (5-4), but lost big in foil, 9-0. A similar situation occurred against Penn State, with the Buckeyes winning in sabre (6-3) and epee (5-4), but falling again in foil, 9-0.
The Buckeyes return to action when they play host to the OSU Open and Dual Meets Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9-10.
