Surgery Scheduled For Buckeye Guard Sean Connolly – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Sean Connolly, who will be a junior on the Ohio State men’s basketball team next season, is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right ankle Thursday at the Ohio State University Hospital. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Grant Jones will perform a procedure to tighten strained ligaments in his right ankle.
OSU medical personnel said tests determined Connolly (G, Peabody, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) had partially torn ligaments in his ankle and a healed stress fracture in his right foot, an injury he suffered while sitting out as a transfer from Providence in 1999-00. While playing for the Buckeyes in 2000-01, he suffered recurrent inversion right ankle sprains. The surgical procedure will tighten the ligaments on the outside of his right ankle.
Connolly is expected to be out of action about eight weeks before rehabilitation begins. Ohio State medical staff and athletic trainers feel Connolly will be able to participate in practices leading up to the Buckeyes’ scheduled trip to Europe in late August.
As a sophomore, Connolly led the Buckeyes in 3-point shooting (45-108, .417) while connecting on 84 percent of his foul shots (42-50). He missed just one free throw (27-28, .964) during Big Ten Conference play during the 2000-01 season.
He started 15 games and averaged 24.5 minutes and 7.6 points a contest for the 20-11 Buckeyes.
