Pierce Named Men’s Big Ten Track and Field Athlete of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Andrew Pierce (Sr., Yellow Springs, Ohio) has been named the Big Ten Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office. He is the second member of the track and field team to receive the award in the 2001 outdoor season.
Pierce wins the award after an outstanding performance in the Pacesetter Invitational April 21. Continuing his dominating performance in the 400-meter dash, Pierce set a Marks Field record with an NCAA provisional time of 45.97 seconds. He also recorded a personal best provisional time of 20.7 in the 200.
In addition to his personal achievements, Pierce ran second leg in the 4×400-meter relay with fellow senior Thomas Dickson (St. Vincent, West Indies), Joel Brown (So., Baltimore, Md.) and Edison Francis (Sr., St. James, Trinidad). The team took first place with a time of 3:10.06. He also anchored the second-place 4×100 relay team comprised of Francis, Brown and Nosa Ehimwenman (Fr., Homewood, Ill.).
The Buckeyes travel to Philadelphia, Pa. Thursday to compete in the 107th Running Penn Relay Carnival.
