OSU Off To A Good Start At Nationals – Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State synchronized swimming team finished on top after the semifinals of day 1 at the 2001 Collegiate National Championship at Newport News, Va. The championship is hosted by the College of William and Mary. Ohio State will go for its second consecutive, and 21st overall title against 200 of the nation’s top athletes from 21 universities.%^$
Twins, Carolina Moraes (Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Isabela Moraes (Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) led throughout the day, taking first place in the duet semifinal with the score of 96.400 for a two-point margin over rival Stanford’s Erin Dobratz and Katie Norris. The Moraes twins combined with Mary Hofer (Jr., Spring Valley, Calif.) for a top semi score of 95.600 in the trio. Carolina Moraes also leads in the solo with a mark of 94.867 over Stanford’s reigning solo champion, Shannon Montague.%^$
Competition will continue Friday with figures and the team semifinals. Finals in every event will be on Saturday.%^$
