Women’s Rowing Opens Spring Season With Wins over No. 4 Virginia, North Carolina – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio-The No. 10 Ohio State women’s rowing team took on No. 4 Virginia and North Carolina on Lake Monticello in Charlottesville, Va., Saturday. The Buckeyes claimed victory against both schools in the first varsity 8 race to start the spring season 2-0 in dual competition.
For the first time in the history of the OSU program, the Buckeyes defeated Virginia in the first varsity 8 competition. The Buckeyes finished with a time of 6 minutes, 29.4 seconds while Virginia completed the course in 6:37.0
Andy Teitelbaum, OSU head coach, is excited about how the Buckeyes started the season against a quality opponent.
“I am proud of the way all the boats performed today,” Teitelbaum said. “We beat Virginia in two of the three NCAA Championship events. For our novice rowers, it was their first taste of collegiate competition.”
Virginia won the second varsity 8 race with a time of 6:44.0. The Buckeyes were just a couple seconds back at 6:46.3. Ohio State won the first varsity 4 competition with a time of 7:31.2. Virginia came in at 7:34.3.
Ohio State started the day with wins in two of the three races against North Carolina. The Buckeyes won the first varsity 8 race with a time of 6:46.6. North Carolina finished with a time of 7:03.9.
In the second varsity 8 race, OSU won 7:00.9 to 7:15.1. The Buckeyes also combined both its varsity 4 teams to enter a second boat in the second varsity 8 race. The second OSU entry finished with a time of 7:06.6.
North Carolina claimed victory in the first novice 8 competition with a time of 7:09.6. The Buckeyes finished with a time of 7:11.8.
Ohio State, which made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament last year, travels to New Jersey March 31 to battle No. 1 Brown and No. 3 Princeton.
