Rowing Begins Spring Season at No. 4 Virginia – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – The preseason No. 10 Ohio State women’s rowing team begins the spring season on the road against preseason No. 4 Virginia and North Carolina Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes will face North Carolina Saturday morning followed by an afternoon race against Virginia.%^$
%^$Ohio State will race six boats against Virginia. The varsity 8, second varsity 8, varsity 4, second varsity 4 and two novice boats will see action for the Buckeyes.%^$
%^$SPRING OUTLOOK
%^$Ohio State will find out early what the squad is made of against some of the top teams in the country. Following the matchup with No. 4 Virginia, the Buckeyes travel to New Jersey to battle No. 1 Brown and No. 3 Princeton March 31.%^$
%^$Ohio State head coach Andy Teitelbaum said his 2001 squad is more talented than any in his tenure with the Buckeyes.%^$
%^$”The varsity boat will be better than any we have had,” Teitelbaum said. “But until we go against the best teams in the country it is hard to say how good we’ll be.”%^$
%^$The Buckeyes advanced to the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance last season. Expectations are high for the 2001 campaign.%^$
%^$”While we had a great year last year and made the championships, we’re confident we’re going to be even faster and better this year,” Teitelbaum said.%^$
%^$EXPERIENCE, NEWCOMERS TO LEAD VARSITY 8
%^$Conny Kirsch (Jr., Potsdam, Germany) and Maxi Meissner (So., Schoenow, Germany) will lead the Buckeyes in the Nos. 6 and 7 seats, respectively, of the first varsity 8 boat. Kirsch, a second team All-American last season, has improved her strength during the offseason.%^$
%^$”Conny is much stronger and is better than ever,” Teitelbaum said. “Maxi also has made tremendous improvements over her freshman year.”%^$
%^$A pair of newcomers are expected to make an immediate impact with the varsity 8 boat.%^$
%^$Karla Fiserova (Fr., Jindrichuv Hradec, Czech Republic) and Natalie Legge (Fr., Sydney, Australia) bring international experience to the Buckeyes.%^$
%^$”Karla is an absolute powerhouse,” Teitelbaum said. “Natalie, like most Australian (rowers), rows the boat extremely well. They spend a lot of time on the water because they have rowing conditions all year long.”%^$
