A look at Jackson’s career
A three-year starter for the Buckeyes, Jim Jackson helped restore Ohio State basketball glory by leading OSU to three NCAA tournaments and two Big Ten championships in an abbreviated career. A clutch player with a penchant for making the game-winning play, Jackson started 93-consecutive games for Ohio State before opting to skip his final year of college ball and go directly to the NBA.
The 6-foot-6-inch guard/forward was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1990 and the Big Ten Player of the Year in each of the next two seasons. Jackson also was a two-time All-American, and was selected by United Press International as the College Player of the Year as a junior.
Jackson scored 1,785 points during his career and is the sixth leading scorer in Ohio State history. His career scoring average of 19.2 points a game is the ninth best in OSU annals. He led Ohio State in scoring in each of his three years as a starter and was the Buckeyes’ leading rebounder as a junior.
He also ranks among the school’s career leaders in assists (372/7th), steals (147/T8th) and 3-point field goals made (82/9th). At the end of his junior year, Jackson was the fourth player taken in the NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks. He currently plays for the Cleveland after a Jan. 2, 2001 trade from the Atlanta Hawks.

Brown catches fire in 2nd half to lead Buckeyes
Ohio State coach Jim O’Brien kept adjusting his offense, but in the end it was mostly guards Brian Brown and Brent Darby causing too much chaos for No. 14 Iowa. Brown scored 20 points and hit all four of his 3-point attempts and Darby added 15 points as Ohio State defeated the Hawkeyes 69-68. Sean Connolly scored 11 points and Ken Johnson added 10 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots for Ohio State, which has won three of four. Iowa got a season-high 27 points from Dean Oliver and 14 points and 11 rebounds from Reggie Evans. Clutch shooting by Brown, who was 7-of-12 from the field, and Darby as well as timely jump hook shots by Johnson helped the Buckeyes overcome a 55-46 deficit with 9:24 remaining. Iowa still had a chance to win in the final 21.6 seconds, but Ryan Hogan’s off-balance, one-handed leaner missed with 4.3 seconds to play to preserve OSU’s 68-65 lead. Darby was fouled on the rebound and sank one of two free throws before Oliver’s 40-foot heave swished through at the buzzer. Brown, Darby and Johnson combined to score 19 of Ohio State’s final 23 points. Johnson, who leads the Big Ten in blocked shots, has 420 in his career and needs nine more to break the conference record set by Penn State’s Calvin Booth (1995-99)..
