No. 16 Women’s Gymnastics Shines in Win at Illinois – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 16th-ranked Ohio State women’s gymnastics team put together one of the best efforts in school history in downing Illinois, 195.850-195.700 Saturday night at Huff Hall in Champaign, Ill. The Buckeyes’ score is a season best and ties the fourth-best mark in school history. The win marks the fourth straight meet title for Ohio State.
Lindsey Vagedes (Sr., Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) continued her stellar senior season with her best career performance in the all-around, taking first place with a 39.550. Vagedes earned top-3 finishes in all four events, tying for first place on floor (9.9), taking runner-up honors on bars (9.875) and vault (9.875) and notching a third-place tie on balance beam (9.9).
Ohio State broke the school record on uneven bars, scoring 49.3 to shatter the previous record of 49.25, last set in OSU’s Jan. 12 meet vs. Ball State. All five scoring Buckeyes recorded at least a 9.8, led by Mary Beth Doerr (Jr., Boston Heights, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), who won the competition for the fourth-consecutive meet, scoring a career-best 9.925.
The Buckeyes (5-1) also notched season highs on vault (49.15) and balance beam (48.8).
Jill Tucker (Jr., Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls), captured the vault title with a 9.925, while Sarah Spring (So., Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) tied Vagedes for first place on floor (9.9), finished third in the all-around (38.825) and tied for third on bars with a career-best 9.85. Jenni Lymanstall (Fr., Defiance, Ohio/Tinora) recorded the Buckeyes’ best balance beam score of the season with a career-best 9.925, tying for first place with Illinois’ Jana Gallagher.
Susan Kinkaid (Sr., Lighthouse Point, Fla./Jupiter Christian) posted her second straight top-3 finish on vault (9.8), and Stephanie Buerkel (Jr., West Chester, Pa./East) tied for third place on bars, matching a career best with a 9.85. Illinois falls to 0-4 with the defeat. Ohio State returns home Friday for a 7 p.m. co-ed meet with Michigan State.
