Women’s volleyball sophomore Stacey Gordon, the 2002 Big Ten Player of the Year, had an outstanding match against Louisville as she recorded 29 kills while hitting .521. With her 13 kills against Robert Morris, Gordon has extended her streak of matches with double-figure kills to 47.
Men’s hockey junior forward R.J. Umberger was honored as the CCHA’s Offensive Player of the Week Monday after leading the Buckeyes with seven points in their two-game sweep of Miami (4-0, 5-3). In the series opener, he had a hand in all four Buckeye goals, posting two goals and two assists and tying his career high of four points set against Notre Dame Feb. 3, 2001. In the series finale, he had a goal and two assists for three points. Umberger now leads the Buckeyes with 19 points this season.
Wrestling senior 197 Anton Talamantes (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) grabbed his second tournament title in 2002 with a 5-1 victory over Tyrone Byrd of Illinois in the Las Vegas Invitational final. Talamantes, who won the Michigan State Open championship at 197, outscored his opposition by a combined tally of 55-22 en route to the title. Talamantes has now upped his record to 13-1 on the season.
