%^$A fifth-consecutive road win in Big Ten would be a first since 1971
%^$Ohio State started the Big Ten season with a 4-5 record and has since gone 6-0, including four-consecutive road wins in the league. Ohio State has not won five-consecutive road games in Big Ten play since the 1970-71 season when OSU won all seven of its road contests on the way to a 13-1 record in the league. Ohio State finished 20-6 that year and won the Big Ten title. The Buckeyes last won four-consecutive road games in the Big Ten during the 1998-99 season. Penn State snapped the win streak with an overtime 98-85 victory over the No. 10 Buckeyes in State College.%^$
%^$Buckeyes reach 10 wins in Big Ten for 3rd consecutive season
%^$The wins over No. 3 Illinois and Northwestern last week gave the Buckeyes their ninth and 10th wins in the Big Ten for the third-consecutive year after a stretch of six-consecutive years without reaching nine wins in the league. Ohio State has not put together three-consecutive years with 10 or more wins in the league since the 1990-92 seasons. That stretch also was the last time Ohio State qualified for three-consecutive NCAA Tournaments. Ohio State is currently vying for its 21st NCAA Tournament appearance and third-consecutive trip to the Big Dance. The Big Ten victory over Northwestern gave the Buckeyes their 26th campaign with 10 or more wins in Big Ten play and their third-consecutive season with double-digit victories in the league.%^$
%^$Johnson reaches milestone in win over Northwestern
%^$Ohio State’s Ken Johnson claimed the Big Ten record for career blocks in the 69-57 win over Northwestern last Saturday. His six blocks upped his career total to 434. He passed Calvin Booth of Penn State (1995-99) to claim the record. Johnson also passed Booth for the No. 5 spot all time in NCAA history for career blocks. Johnson needs four more to pass No. 4 Lorenzo Coleman’s (Tenn. Tech) 437 career blocks.%^$
%^$Buckeyes show balance from long range, free throw line
%^$Four Buckeye regulars have each connected on at least 34 3-point shots this season. Sophomore Sean Connolly leads the pack with 42 made treys and is tops in 3-point shooting percentage (.429). Junior Brian Brown follows in both categories (37-88, .420). Sophomore Brent Darby (36-104, .346) and Boban Savovic (34-92, .370) also pose threats from the outside. Add Ken Johnson to the above four and the Buckeyes have five players hitting 71 percent or better from the foul line. Connolly again is the leader by percentage (37-45, .822). He has made 31 of his last 32 attempts. Savovic (56-74, .757), Darby (51-68, .750), Brown (82-114, .719) and Johnson (81-114, .711) all have performed well at the charity stripe.%^$
%^$Ohio State’s RPI and SOS on the rise
%^$With four recent wins over ranked foes and six-consecutive wins in the Big Ten, four of which were on the road, Ohio State has made a move in the Rating Percentage Index (RPI). The NCAA selection committee, to select teams for the NCAA Tournament, uses the RPI. CollegeRPI.com, an unofficial RPI, has Ohio State rated No. 31 nationally (as of 2/27). Five teams rated in the AP Top 25 are rated lower. No. 17 Oklahoma (33 RPI), No. 25 Xavier (34), No. 16 Maryland (42), No. 21 Georgetown (43) and No. 20 Alabama (44) are behind the Buckeyes in the RPI. Of the 30 teams rated above OSU in the RPI and ranked by AP, eight have a strength of schedule rated below Ohio State’s, including No. 1 Stanford (1 RPI/45 SOS), No. 11 Boston College (8/40), No. 8 Iowa State (10/48), No. 13 Notre Dame (17/36), No. 19 Syracuse (18/43), No. 7 Virginia (19/55), No. 6 Florida (21/72) and No. 18 St. Joseph’s (22/108).%^$

With 12:32 left in the first half, Tavaras Hardy of Northwestern drove the lane and put up a shot, but Johnson swatted it away, giving the OSU center his 429th career block, tops in league history. The rejection put Johnson past Penn State’s Calvin Booth and placed Johnson alone at No. 5 in the NCAA career blocks. Ohio State was up, 31-28, at the break but turned over the ball on five of its first seven possessions of second half. Northwestern kept it close as Johnson got into foul trouble and sat on the bench. Collier Drayton had a chance to tie the game at 33 with a bucket and foul with 14 minutes left, but missed the free throw. After sitting for four minutes, Johnson returned and immediately made an impact, blocking another shot at one end and making a layup on the other. Boban Savovic then drilled a pair of 3-pointers and the Buckeyes went on a 13-2 run.%^$
