Two Buckeye Fencers Capture Champion Titles – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Alexandra Shklar (Fr., Jerusalem, Israel) captured first-place in women’s epee after defeating Anna Carnick of Notre Dame, 15-14 in the final round.
Sara Bowen (Sr., Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood) took the women’s sabre title after defeating Northwestern’s Carly Wells 15-8. FaneGroes (Sr., Copenhagen, Denmark/Vordingborg) finished third in women’s in women’s foil
For the men, Nathan Weir ( Fr., Kennewick, Wa/ Kennewick) posted a third-place finish in foil while teammate Kitz Siebert (Fr., Lawrence, Ka.). placed fifth in men’s sabre.
The Ohio State fencing team took fourth place at the Midwest Fencing Championships held in Notre Dame Feb. 24-25. Notre Dame captured the team title scoring 870 points while Northwestern (755) and Wayne State (725) rounded out the Top 3.
The team scores were a composite of the men’s and women’s team scores. The men finished second out of 11 teams, scoring 395 points. Undefeated Notre Dame captured the men’s title. The OSU women’s squad finished seventh with 225 points. Northwestern won the team title with 425 points while Notre Dame (420) and Wayne State (340) finished second and third.
Both the men and women’s squad will compete in the NCAA Regionals in Detroit, Michigan.
