Buckeye Fencers Host 2001 OSU Open – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio– Alan Jones (Jr., Ft. Leonardwood, Mo./Waynesville) from Ohio State defeated Rob Barlow from Northwestern in the finals of the 2001 OSU Open tonight to win the gold medal in men’s epee. The event was an individual event and was a non-team scoring event.
Other medal winners for the Buckeyes in the event were Kitz Siebert (So., Lawrence, Kan./Free State) winning the silver in men’s sabre. Siebert was defeated, 15-6, in a tough match by Mike Momtselid from the Ohio Fencing Alliance. Alexandra Shklar (So., Jerusalem, Israel/Hatihon Hamasorati) won the silver in women’s epee. Shklar was defeated by Kate Rudkin of Northwestern, 15-11. Bronze medallists from Ohio State included Hanna Thompson (Rochester, N.Y./East) and Metta Thompson (Rochester, N.Y./East) in women’s epee.
The Buckeyes return to action once again tomorrow when they host the OSU Dual meets at French Field House at 9 a.m. Team participating in the event include Ohio State, Cleveland State, Michigan, Purdue, Northwestern, Michigan State, Case Western and Detroit-Mercy.
