Rowing Opens Fall At Head Of The Ohio – Ohio State Buckeyes

ABOUT THE HEAD OF THE OHIO
Held on the Alleghany River, the Head of the Ohio is a 2.8 mile race that concludes just before the point where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers meet to form the Ohio River. More than 4,000 entrants will compete in the 29 races held during the day, starting at 6:30 a.m. Saturday. The event is co-hosted by the Mercy Foundation and The Three Rivers Rowing Association. Proceeds will benefit the Mercy Burn Center.
OSU ENTRIES
The Buckeyes will have two boats competing in the final race of the day, the open eight division. The A boat was granted top seed because of OSU’s first-place fininsh last season.

LAST YEAR AT THE HEAD OF OHIO
The Buckeyes won the open eight division at the Head of the Ohio last year by 19.5 seconds. Ohio State beat rivals Boston University, Michigan State, Michigan and Virginia along with the other 25 competing crews in the 30 crew event.
The Buckeyes B boat also had a standout finish of 12th in that same event with a time of 16:58 finishing ahead of B boats from Boston University and Michigan State. They also finished ahead of 11 team A boats.

The Buckeyes will travel to Boston, Mass. Oct. 21 for the Head of the Charles. OSU will play host to the Speakmon Ohio Race Oct. 2
