Rowing To Compete in Speakmon Head Race – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–The Buckeyes will be rowing on familiar water Saturday as they compete at Griggs reservoir at the Speakmon Head Race. Ohio State will compete in a three-mile head style race that features 51 university, high school and club teams.
Head coach Andy Teitelbaum believes the event, which is sponsored by The Greater Columbus Rowing Club, will be fun and a good experience for his squad.
“It’s a local event that we are glad to support. It gives us a chance to get all our varsity athletes a race and to race some kids in events they don’t normally get to compete in,” Teitelbaum said.
“It’s a lot of fun and we are looking for some strong results in all the events we enter.”
OSU Entries
The Buckeyes will be competing in multiple events on Saturday. Ohio State will have a total of 13 boats competing. Natalie Legge, Karla Fiserova, Katie Buttine and Franziska Schubert will be competing in singles competition for the Buckeyes. OSU will have teams of Maxi Meissner and Susi Wesenberg and Meghan McCartney and Heather Arndts competing in the pairs event. The Buckeyes also will have two four and three eight boats competing.

Ohio State finished first in all four of the events in which they competed. The Buckeyes also featured seven Top 10 finishes in women’s open singles competition.
Up Next
The Buckeyes will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to compete in the Rivana Romp Nov. 11 to wrap up the fall schedule.
About Coach Teitelbaum
Now in his seventh year at the head of the Ohio State rowing program, Teitelbaum has guided the Buckeyes to national prominence. With a record of 38-15, including a 4th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, in 2001 Teitelbaum’s career record at OSU now stands at 85-61-5.
Last Time Out
The Ohio State rowing team’s first varsity eight entered the Head of The Charles two weeks removed from a first-place finish Oct. 6 at the Head of the Ohio.
The Buckeyes finished fourth at the Boston, Mass., event out of 54 boats in the championship race with a time of 16 minutes, 30.6 seconds.
Andy Teitelbaum, Ohio State’s head coach, said his team rowed well but there is still room for improvement.
“They had a good solid outing,” Teitelbaum said. “We have a lot of talent and it showed. Princeton beat us by a pretty good margin and that shows we still have some work to do.”
The U.S. Rowing team won the race with a time of 16:01.6 ahead of second-place Princeton, which finished nine seconds behind.
The Buckeyes improved on their seventh-place finish last year by shaving 36 seconds off their time from a year ago.
