%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio–Ken Johnson (Detroit, Mich./Henry Ford), a senior on the Ohio State men’s basketball team, is among 30 preseason candidates for the 2000-01 Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award, Jackie Bradford, executive director of the Atlanta Tipoff Club, announced Tuesday.%^$
%^$The Naismith Awards program, now in its 33rd year, honors the outstanding college basketball players in the United States. The program was founded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, an organization dedicated to recognizing the achievements of student-athletes in basketball.%^$
%^$The candidates were selected by a vote of the Board of Selectors comprised of leading basketball coaches, journalists and basketball analysts. Kenyon Martin of Cincinnati was the men’s winner in 1999-00.%^$
%^$Charlie Bell (Michigan State), Cory Bradford (Illinois) and Mike Kelley (Wisconsin) also represent the Big Ten on the list.%^$
