Women’s Soccer Falls to Washington, 3-1, At NIKE Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio–The Ohio State women’s soccer team lost to the%^$Washington Huskies, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in the final game of the%^$University of Michigan/NIKE Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. With the%^$loss, the Buckeyes’ record drops to 3-3 overall and 0-0 in the Big Ten%^$while the Huskies remain a perfect 6-0 overall and 0-0 in the Pac-10.%^$
%^$Lindsay Eckles (So., Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) recorded%^$the lone goal for Ohio State at the 10:50 mark off a pass from Michelle Besson%^$(So., Kettering, Ohio/The Miami Valley School). During her five%^$game scoring berage, Eckles has amassed seven goals for 17 total points.%^$She leads the team in scoring and her three assists tie her for second%^$among the Buckeyes.%^$
%^$Ohio State’s 1-0 lead was short lived. Washington scored three%^$times in a span of 10 minutes. Washington senior Teresa Wagner headed a%^$pass from teammate Caroline Putz past Ohio State goalkeeper Amber Barnes%^$(Sr., Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) at 20:16 to tie the game at one.%^$Moments later, at 22:51, Huskie senior Tami Bennet placed the ball past%^$Barnes from five yards out to give Washington a 2-1 lead.%^$
%^$The Huskies ended the scoring surge at 30:57 when freshman%^$Melissa Bennet found the back of the net on a pass from Putz, her second%^$assist on the day.%^$
%^$Ohio State was severely out-shot by Washington, 29-3, with 12 of%^$the Huskies’ shots coming on goal. Barnes recorded nine saves while%^$Washington sophomore goalkeeper Hope Solo recorded two saves in the%^$victory.%^$
%^$Ohio State will return to action at 2 p.m. Friday when the%^$Buckeyes play host to the Dayton Flyers at Jesse Owens Memorial%^$Stadium. Dayton is 3-2 and has won its last three contests.%^$
