Four Track and Field Athletes Set to Compete in Olympic Trials – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four of Ohio State’s track and field athletes, Dominque Calloway (Sr., Auroa, Colo./Denver South), Ian Connor (Jr., Lexington, Ohio/Northmor Local), Donica Merriman (Jr., Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) and Andrew Pierce (Jr., Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs), have qualified to compete in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, July 14-23 in Sacramento, Calif., at California State University’s Hornet Stadium. The USA Track and Field Organization will host the event.
The Top 3 finishers of the 20 men’s and 19 women’s events earn a spot on the U.S. roster for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, Sept. 22-Oct. 1.
The entry standard for the 400 hurdles is 57.80 and she earned a seasonal best time of 56.32. The entry standard for the 100 hurdles is 13.25 and the standard to receive funding is 12.85. Calloway’s seasonal best time was 12.86. Merriman also qualified for the 100 hurdles and her fastest time of the season was 12.70.
Merriman also qualified for the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. The entry standard for the 100 is 11.40 and she earned a seasonal best time of 11.16. The standard for the 200 is 23.28 and her fastest time of the season was 22.75.
Pierce qualified for the 400-meter dash and his fastest time of the season was 44.87. The entry standard is 45.70. Connor qualified in the 3,00-meter steeplechase with his fastest time of the season, 8:41.16. The entry standard is 8:42.00.
The first round for the 100 and the 400 is scheduled for July 14, the 400 hurdles for July 15, the steeplechase on July 17 and the 100 hurdles and 200 on July 22.
