Ohio State head coach Jim O’Brien
“Naturally it’s a disappointing loss. Give credit where credit is due. Iowa deserves a lot of credit.
“You have to give (Kyle) Galloway a lot of credit. That was a big, big three-pointer he made.
(On George Reese) “George played well. That’s a good sign when teams are double-teaming him. That means they have one more guy they need to worry about. Hopefully that will open up some looks for other guys.
“I think we managed the end of the game terrifically. Sometimes you just have to give credit to the other guys.”
Ken Johnson
“It all boils down to hitting free throws. We didn’t.
“They hit some big baskets and that’s what beat us. Any team can beat any other team in this league. That’s what makes it so tough.”
Michael Redd
“We have got to suck this up and come back and play well on Saturday. We played terrible defense, which has been our strength all year. We need a lot of work before Saturday.”
Scoonie Penn
“We are tired of losing like that. That makes three this season. We did not shoot well from the free throw line, and that was the difference.
“We didn’t get down too far in the first half. We let them play well.”
Iowa head coach Steve Alford
“This is always fun when it comes down to this kind of game. It was great to win on the road in front of a great college atmosphere. Our defense was outstanding. We really fought hard and that really led us to the win.
“I was extremely happy for Kyle Galloway, who got to make that shot. He missed it at Indiana, but he made it today.
“We are still a very inexperienced team. We have to take the good with the bad and learn as we go.
“Our gameplan coming in was not to hit three pointers. It was the selection of a shot. We did not want to shoot transition shots. We wanted long possessions and keep Ohio State out of the paint. Then we could win.
“I am going to tell these kids that Illinois is ranked fourth because we play pretty well when there’s a number in front of the other team.”
