No. 1 Men’s Gymnastics Wins Final Home Meet of Season – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The top-ranked Ohio State men’s gymnastics team used a team season-high score to defeat three ranked teams Saturday night in St. John Arena. The Buckeyes won the meet with a score of 230.725, followed by No. 7 Iowa (228.700), No. 6 Brigham Young (226.375) and No. 11 Minnesota (221.075). The Buckeyes won five of the six events and posted team season highs in three different events. The Buckeyes remain undefeated (13-0) and extended their home unbeaten streak to 12 meets.
Senior Michael Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio), in his last home meet for Ohio State, led the Buckeyes with a career-high in the all-around (57.625). He placed third in the all-around, was second on the floor exercise (9.775) and tied for second on the vault (9.700). Dick Huntwork (Fr., Pickerington, Ohio) also had a standout performance for the Buckeyes, as he claimed his first career event win with a career-high 9.750 on the vault and recorded a personal-best 9.700 on the floor exercise to place third.
OSU’s Jamie Natalie (Jr., Hockessin, Del.) won the high bar with a 9.925 and placed third on the still rings (9.750). Freshman Ryan Schwartzkopf (Columbus, Ind.) was third on the pommel horse with a career-high 9.925, while classmate Raj Bhavsar (Houston, Texas) finished second on the rings with a 9.850. Earnest Nelson (So., Rowlett, Texas) claimed third place on the high bar with a season and career-best 9.750.
Brigham Young’s Guard Young claimed three event titles in addition to winning the all-around with a score of 58.600. He won the floor exercise (9.825), the pommel horse (9.995) and the parallel bars (9.850). BYU’s Cortney Bramwell, the defending NCAA champion on the still rings, won that event title with a score of 9.925.
The Buckeyes will compete in their last dual meet of the season when they travel to State College, Pa. to face Penn State Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
