Men’s Hockey Dominates Ferris State, 6-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$Columbus, Ohio – Paul Caponigri (Fr., Oak Park, Ill.) scored three points, on two goals and an assist, to lead the Ohio State men’s hockey team to a 6-1 victory over Ferris State at Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. tonight. The Buckeyes improve to 9-4-0 overall on the season and 6-3-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey League. The Bulldogs drop to 3-8-2, 1-7-1 in the conference.%^$
%^$Jean-Francois Dufour (Sr., Bedford, Quebec) scored a goal in the first period for his 100th career point. He also added an assist in the game to move his career totals to 101 points on 40 goals and 61 assists in 131 games.%^$
%^$There was no scoring through the first 15:52 of the opening stanza. The Buckeyes then scored three goals in two minutes and 32 seconds, including two goals in a 12-second span, to go up, 3-0. Paul Caponigri (Fr., Oak Park, Ill.) got Ohio State on the board first with a power-play goal, assisted by Dave Steckel (Fr., West Bend, Wis.) and Doug Andress (Fr., Iroquois Falls, Ontario). The assist extended Steckel’s point-scoring streak to seven games.%^$

Forty-one seconds into the stanza Scott May (Fr., Beaverlodge, Alberta) deflected an Eric Skaug (So., Portland, Ore.) shot for his second tally of the season. T.J. Latorre (So., Naperville, Ill.) added an assist on the play. The Buckeyes increased their lead to 5-0 when Ganga one-timed a Mike McCormick (Jr., Peterborough, Ontario) shot on the power play. Jaisen Freeman (Sr., Mahtomedi, Minn.) also had an assist on the play.%^$
%^$Caponigri added his second power-play goal of the game 5:09 into the third period for the Buckeyes’ final score, assisted by Dufour and McCormick. The Bulldogs got on the board when Josh Bowers scored 10:21 into the period.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes were 3-for-7 on the power play and stopped all three FSU power-play opportunities.%^$
%^$Goalie Mike Betz (Fr., Elizabeth, Pa.) stopped 18-of-19 shots to post the win for the Buckeyes. Phil Osaer and Vince Owen shared time in net for the Bulldogs. The tandem combined for 29 saves on 35 Ohio State shots.%^$
