Women’s Soccer Ends Year With 4-0 Win Over Louisville – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State women’s soccer team finished its 2000 campaign Saturday by beating visiting Louisville, 4-0. Four different Buckeyes scored a goal in the victory that improved OSU’s record to 6-13 overall and 1-9 in the Big Ten and snapped its string of five-consecutive losses. Louisville finished the season 1-18-1 overall and 0-11 in Conference USA.
Sarah Lanham (So., Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) started the OSU scoring in the 10th minute when Lindsay Eckles (So., Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) pushed the ball through the defense allowing Lanham to have an open shot at the goal. Lanham shot the ball to the top right corner of the goal for the gamewinner.
Eckles added the second score at 42:56 when she again broke through the defense and put the ball in the lower right corner of the goal. Eckles had eight of the 41 OSU shots. UL had nine shots total.
OSU’s seniors went to work in the second half and finished their careers on a great note. In the 63rd minute, Amanda Orr (Sr. Brecksville, Ohio/Broadview Heights) put a loose ball into the net for her first goal of the season. Fellow classmate Mia Katzel (Sr., Ukiah, Calif./Ukiah) pushed the ball towards Orr after receiving a corner kick from Jennifer Miller (So., Centerville, Ohio/Centerville).
The final goal of the match came from Liz White (Fr., Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy). White recorded her first career goal on a shot from 30-yards out. Katzel assisted on the goal, her second assist on the day.
Amber Barnes (Sr., Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) recorded one save, finishing the year with 136 and 416 for her career. Her career total is the most ever in OSU history.
“It is to their credit that they came out and played with such enthusiasm,” Lori Walker, OSU head coach, said. “I am really proud of them for keeping their composure and coming out here and taking care of business.”
