Redd Among Top 30 Wooden Candidates – Ohio State Buckeyes

LOS ANGELES— The 30 top candidates for the John R. Wooden Award, the%^$nation’s most coveted college basketball award, were announced today at%^$approximately 7:00 p.m. PDT by Chris Myers and Kevin Frazier on FOX Sports%^$Net’s coverage of the Sugar Bowl Basketball Classic. The Award is named for%^$the three-time college basketball All American, 1932 Player of the Year and%^$ten-time national championship coach at UCLA.%^$
%^$Three players who figured to be top candidates were given alternate%^$status due to injuries that have kept them out of action early in the %^$season.%^$Mark Madsen of Stanford and Hanno Mattola of Utah have rejoined their teams%^$in the last week, and Mateen Cleaves of Michigan State figures to be back %^$on%^$the court in the next few weeks. Among the top players receiving%^$consideration are returning Wooden All-American Chris Porter of Auburn and%^$Khalid El-Amin and Kevin Freeman of 1999 NCAA Champion Connecticut.%^$
%^$The 2000 John R. Wooden Award will be presented to the college %^$basketball%^$player of the year at the 24th annual John R. Wooden Award program. The%^$Midseason Top 30 is based on player performance through the first half of %^$the%^$season and players are chosen by the Wooden Award Committee. Players who %^$do%^$not make this list are still eligible for consideration for the Wooden %^$Award.%^$
%^$Ballots are sent out to more than 1,000 voters on March 6, 2000. The %^$voters%^$will select The Wooden Award All-American Team and determine which player%^$will receive the Wooden Award Trophy as the outstanding collegiate %^$basketball%^$player in the United States. Ballots are due back from the voters Monday,%^$March 27 at noon Pacific time.%^$
%^$The Award presentation, which will include the presentation of the %^$Wooden%^$Award All-America team, will be held at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on%^$Friday, April 7, 2000 at 4 p.m. PST/7 p.m. EST and will be televised%^$nationally on Fox Sports Net for the third straight year . Tickets for the%^$black tie John R.
