Big Ten Men’s Hoops Team Posts 1-1 Record in Final Two Contests in Austria – Ohio State Buckeyes

PARK RIDGE, Ill. – The Big Ten Men’s Foreign Tour team went 1-1 in its final two games on its 10-day trip to Austria. The Big Ten team defeated the UKJ-Suba St. Polten squad (87-78), but fell to the Steiner Basketball team (71-69).
In the win over UKJ-Suba St. Polten, Indiana’s Kirk Haston tallied a team-high 25 points, on an 11-14 shooting performance. The 25 points were the most scored by a Big Ten player in the six games played in Austria. Haston also grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds and blocked two shots in 27 minutes of play. Michigan State’s Mike Chappell (18) and Purdue’s Maynard Lewis (13) also scored in double figures in the win. Overall, the Big Ten team shot 51 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Conference team dominated the boards and had a 40-25 advantage on the glass.
Haston led the Big Ten in its loss to the Steiner Basketball team. Haston scored 12 points and shot 66 percent from the field (6-9). He also grabbed six boards. Northwestern’s Steve Lepore chipped in 10 points in the effort, while Iowa’s Dean Oliver scored nine points and dished out six assists. Cumulative stats from the tour follow the box scores.
