ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – As the Ohio State men’s basketball team arrived in Tampa late yesterday and adjourned to their secluded hotel, thousands of fans invaded the coastal city to eat, shop, and bask in the sun. Fans could be seen at Spring Training baseball games; Hoop City, the NCAA interactive playground; and the open practice for all four teams held at Tropicana Field.
Ohio State held their open practice this afternoon beginning with their workouts at noon. Duke, UConn, and Michigan State followed thereafter. Following the open sessions thousands flocked to the beach and the downtown area to get a feel for the Floridian paradise that is hosting the 1999 Final Four.
Today might have been fun for all of the fans and teams involved, but tomorrow its all business. The Buckeyes tangle with the Huskies on Saturday in the first of two semifinal games beginning at 5:42 p.m. (EST). The winner of that semifinal will play the winner of the Duke/Michigan State game in the National Championship on Monday evening at approximately 9:15 p.m. (EST).
