Ohio State head coach Jim O’Brien
“It was a major effort today to get Ken the ball. We are going to need his efforts once we hit Big Ten play. We’re still a little disappointed that he only got four shots.
“It is absurd to think that we would ask Scoonie or Michael to stop shooting because they aren’t shooting well. Quietly, Scoonie played very well. He started running the offense very, very well.
“Brian is about the most consistent player and person around. You always know what you are going to get from him. He will do anything we ask.
“The young guys are physically ready. We are a little frustrated with the mental mistakes. They will come along, just like last year’s freshmen.”
Ken Johnson
“Today I got good positioning. That allowed me to get a couple touches on the ball. I think I got into their heads a little after my first couple of blocks. You can’t practice shot blocking. It’s just the way the play sets up.
“Our younger guys stepped up today. I got into foul trouble, and they did a good job.”
Scoonie Penn
“I don’t think Michael and I are struggling. We are getting good looks and eventually they will fall. We are guys that do not look at the shooting percentages. We have other guys who have started to step up.”
Eastern Kentucky head coach Scott Perry
“We played very poorly today. The team you saw today was not typical. We got off to a slow start and they played very well. Ohio State responded very well after a tough loss to Kansas. They played with a lot of determination.
(On Ken Johnson)
“We hadn’t seen a shot blocker like Johnson this season. We recruited him when I was at Michigan. I noticed that Ken’s gotten a lot stronger. Overall he did a very nice job today.”
