%^$Telephone calls and writing letters have become e-mails, faxes, and voice mails. As a result, institutions now have a much broader range of mediums to choose from for purposes of recruiting. The following is a brief list of a few of the rules and regulations regarding the usage of such mediums.%^$
Q. Is it permissible for boosters to give testimonials during a highlight film? Can the narrator be a booster?%^$
%^$A. It is permissible for a booster to give a testimonial or narrate during a highlight film provided the booster is speaking about the season and/or events related to the sports season.%^$
%^$Q. Is it permissible for a booster to e-mail, call, or write the coaches with a suggestion on a student the booster thinks would make a strong addition to the University and Athletics Department?%^$
%^$A. It is permissible for a booster to assist the coaching staff in the recruiting process by writing, e-mailing, or calling the coaches regarding the student.%^$
%^$Q. Is it permissible for a coach to contact a prospect by using e-mail?%^$
%^$A. It is permissible for a coach to contact a prospect by using e-mail, as e-mails are not counted as telephone calls and are also not limited in number. A coach can begin e-mailing a prospect after Sept. 1 of the prospect’s junior year. However, it is not permissible for a booster to e-mail a prospect as this would be considered an impermissible contact. %^$
%^$Q. Are boosters permitted to design recruiting aids (visual, electronic, etc.) for prospects?%^$
%^$A. No. Member institutions and their representatives of athletics interests are prohibited from financing, arranging, or utilizing recruiting aids (e.g. newspaper advertisements, bumper stickers, message buttons) designed to publicize the institution’s interest in a particular prospect.%^$
%^$Q. Is it permissible for an institution to show a highlight film or recruiting video to a prospect?%^$
%^$A. It is permissible for an institution to show a highlight film to a prospect or the prospect’s coach during an on-or off-campus visit but may not send it to or leave it with the prospect or coach. An institution may not produce a recruiting video and obviously may not show a recruiting video to a prospect.%^$
%^$Q. Is an institution permitted to produce video or audio materials to show or send to prospects?%^$
%^$A. It is not permissible for a Division I institution to produce video/audio materials to show or send to a prospect unless it is a highlight film, non-athletics videotapes available to all students (e.g., admissions video) or a Hall of Fame/Museum video/audio tape as specified by Bylaw 13.4.2.%^$
%^$Q. May video playbooks be sent to prospects?%^$
%^$A. An institution may send a video playbook or video of broken down-game film to a prospect who has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI), inasmuch as such items are considered necessary pre-enrollment information regarding practice activities.%^$
