Ohio State Student Named College Football Fan of the Century – Ohio State Buckeyes

CARLSBAD, Calif.— Ohio State freshman Geoff Stover was named the Student Advantage FANSonly Network’s Fan of the Century, as voted by visitors to the network’s hub website www.fansonly.com. The contest ended at midnight on Dec. 14 with over 35,000 visitors taking part in voting in the final round.
A marketing major from Cincinnati, Stover was among the apprioximately 250 entries in the contest, which began on Nov. 8. Each fan was required to submit an essay of approximately 100 words or less, along with pictures and support materials that would help build their case as the College Football Fan of the Century. A list of 16 finalists were submitted by FANSonly Network editors for head-to-head competition and visitors to the site voted on their favorite entries.
The grand prize for the event is a trip for two (2) to the national championship game at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, La. on January 4th, 2000. The trip includes airfare, two (2) nights accommodations, and airport transfers.
“I am incredibly excited by be the FANSonly’s Fan of the Century,” said Stover, a 1999 graduate of Cincinnati’s Princeton High School. “I guess my friends were right when they called my obsession with Ohio State ridiculous and sick. This is great for me, but also for every one of the best fans in the world, Buckeye fans!”
Stover defeated fans from Oklahoma, Miami and Stanford to advance to the finals of the contest. His 73 percent of the vote against the fan from USC was among the largest margins of victory in the contest. He narrowly defeated a fan from Missouri to win the title.
