Women Fencers Nail Eight Top 25 Finishes – Ohio State Buckeyes

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Ohio State women’s fencing team finished the final round of the Penn State Open today, capturing eight top 25 spots in the competition.
In women’s foil, Fane Groes (Jr., Copenhage, Denmark) captured the No. 7 position, while teammate Sally Dowding (Jr., West Midlands, Eng.) took the 21st spot among 45 competitors. Volunteer coach Yelena Kalkina participated in the tournament and won a second place finish in women’s foil.
In women’s epee, Toya Holland (So., Columbus, Ohio) took 18th place while Jamie Rice (Jr., West Chester, Ohio) and Leah Tracy (So., Winnetka, Ill.) rounded out the top 25.
OSU will not compete again until Jan. 15 when it travels to Notre Dame, Ind., for the NAC Open/Junior. The first time the Buckeyes will compete in a meet where a team score is kept is Jan. 22 at Northwestern University.
