COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State lost its final conference match to Penn State, 5-0, Friday evening at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Penn State opened scoring in the 18th minute, as Courtney Lawson scored a goal while OSU goalkeeper Amber Barnes (Jr., Fairfield, Ohio) was out of the box recovering a loose ball. Three minutes later, Christie Welsh fired an unassisted shot into the Buckeye goal. Lawson would score three more goals for the Nittany Lions to shutout OSU.
“We played an outstanding Big Ten team,” said head coach Lori Walker. “Their strength is up top and they knocked the ball around the field. They should do well in post season play.”
With the win, Penn State remains undefeated in the Big Ten conference and will claim the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament Nov. 4-7.
The Buckeyes are 10-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the Big Ten. On Oct. 27, OSU travels to Bowling Green, Ohio, to face the Falcons at 1 p.m.
