COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior forward Jessica Limauro found the net twice for Michigan as the Wolverines shutout Ohio State 2-0 at the OSU Sports Field Sunday afternoon. Michigan moves to 6-2-1 on the year, earning its first conference victory (1-2-1) and the Buckeyes are now 6-3-0, 1-3-0 in the Big Ten.
Michigan got on the board first as junior midfielder Mari Hoff found Limauro sneaking behind the OSU defensive line. Limauro buried the ball left post with a blistering shot that soared past a diving Amber Barnes (So., Fairfield, Ohio), giving UM a 1-0 lead. In the 18th minute, Melanie Vierling (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) headed an Elisa Hamilton (Fr., Westerville, Ohio) throw-in at goal that barely missed, sailing past the left post.
The Buckeyes missed another chance in the 36th minute when Jill Leanord (Sr., Lexington, Ohio) struck a loose ball from point blank range right into Jessica Jones’ stomach. Jones recorded three of her four saves on the day in the first half.
Limauro notched her second goal six minutes into the second period when she lofted a shot toward the left post that swooped and hooked under the crossbar. Michigan outshot the Buckeyes 13-11 for the contest with nine of its shots on net. OSU managed just four strikes on goal.
The Buckeyes have a full week of practice to prepare for No. 7 Penn State on Friday. OSU will play the Nittany Lions at 7 p.m. at Jeffrey Field in University Park, Pa.
