COLUMBUS, Ohio – Legendary funnyman Bill Cosby will take the stage Saturday, November 14th at 7PM in Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center appearing as one of the 20,000 seat arena’s 1st events. The 90-minute stand-up routine will showcase the best of Cosby’s signature style – subtlety, humor and good storytelling – an appeal that crosses racial and generational lines without the need for offensive language or risque topics.
Cosby grew up in a Philadelphia getto. His first professional appearance (he received $5 per night) was at a Philly club called “The Underground”. There was no stage, so Cosby performed from a chair propped on a table. Cosby had to climb over the bar to get to it, but because of his height he couldnt stand up making him the first “sitdown” comedian.
Cosby has been intimately involved with comedy for over thirty years. His credits include recordings (the best selling comedian of all time on records producing 21 albums of which 8 went Gold. He holds five Grammy Awards for “Best Comedy Album”), books (his first Fatherhood became the fastest selling hardcover book of all time), movies (Cosby has acted alongside Rachel Welch, Richard Pryor, Robin Williams, Harry Belafonte and Sidney Poitier) AND as product spokesman (Coke, Kodak & Jell-O.) It is in the world of television that Bill Cosby has perhaps been most visible. His 8-year run of The Cosby Show changed the face of network sitcoms jettisoning him to positions as network megastar and one of the richest tv stars of all time. His role in the series I Spy playing opposite Robert Culp is credited with breaking the racial barrier of television when a black man was cast alongside a white man as an equal AND babyboomers remember fondly watching the replicated adventures of Cosbys real-life boyhood pals in the animated Fat Albert cartoon series.
