Ohio State Game Notes vs. UAB – Ohio State Buckeyes

* The last time Ohio State won a game outside the continental United States was Dec. 23, 1993 against Boston College in the Maui Classic. OSU won that contest 69-67 against No. 18 Boston College. The last Buckeye win during an in-season tournament was a 92-88 victory over Eastern Kentucky in the Casper Shootout held in Casper, Wyo., Dec. 28, 1995.
* Ohio State was playing for the first time in Puerto Rico.
* Ohio State is now 86-69 (.555) in neutral site contests.
* Michael Redd, who was honored by the Big Ten Conference as the leagues’ co-player of the week earlier in the day after a pair of 20+ scoring outings last week, scored the final 11 points of the first half against UAB to help the Buckeyes to a 34-31 halftime advantage. Ohio State is now 9-0 in games the Buckeyes have led at the half. The league honor was the second of the season for the Buckeyes and the first for Redd, who was the Big Ten’s scoring leader as a freshman last year.
* Michael Redd scored 28 points, his second highest output of the season (29 vs. Oakland 11/13). Redd has scored 20 or more points in the last three games. He has had four streaks during his career in which he has scored 20 or more points in three consecutive games. His longest streak of 20 or more is six games. He started that run with 28 vs. Rider (11/27/97) and had 24, 26, 23, 28, and 20 (at USL 12/17/97) last year. His current streak includes 22 vs. Tennessee Martin (12/14/98), 26 against Florida Atlantic (12/17) and 28 vs. UAB (12/21).
* With 28 points and 12 rebounds Michael Redd notched his first and the team’s first double-double of the season. Redd now has six career double doubles. His last prior to his effort against UAB was a 20-point, 11 rebound effort against Michigan (1/17/98). Redd is currently No. 5 all time in career scoring with a 21.2 average.
* The Buckeyes placed four players in double figures against UAB (Redd 28, Penn 14, Singleton and Reese 10 each). It was the 8th time in 11 games OSU has had three or more players in double digits.
* Ohio State held the Blazers to 36.1 percent shooting from the field, marking the seventh time this season an opponent failed to reach the 40 percent mark from the field.
* Ohio State has connected on at least one 3-pointer in each of its last 195 games. Michael Redd extended the streak with a trey with 10:44 left in the first half. He has kept the streak going in each of the last three games.
* The win over UAB was the first over the Blazers. It was the first meeting between the two schools. Ohio State is now 33-20 vs. Conference USA.
* Ohio State and N.C. State have met just once previously, a 68-54 Wolfpack win in the first round of the Tournament of Champions held in Charlotte, N.C., Dec. 1, 1989. N.C. State was ranked No. 19 at the time.
