COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Justin Hall drove past three defenders and hit a layup%^$with 5.7 seconds left to give Toledo 64-63 victory over Ohio State.%^$

Toledo (6-0) led throughout most of the game and held a 62-58 advantage%^$with 2:02 remaining before Ohio State (6-2) made a furious rally. The%^$Buckeyes’ Brian Brown stole an inbounds pass with 20.1 seconds left to%^$give Ohio State a 63-62 lead. Hall then drove the length off the floor%^$for the winning shot. Ohio State’s Sconnie Penn missed a shot in the%^$lane with two seconds left and Michael Redd’s tip-in was off the mark.%^$Clayton Burch led Toledo with 19 points and Greg Stempin added 15 and%^$led the Rockets down the stretch in the second half. %^$

Sconnie Penn had%^$24 points to lead Ohio State. Redd added 16 for the Buckeyes. The%^$Rockets led 36-25 at the half, but Penn sparked Ohio State’s first%^$comeback with a pair of 3-pointers that pulled the Buckeyes to within%^$38-34 with 15:42 to play. The first half belonged to the Rockets thanks%^$to Burch, who came into the game averaging six points a game. He hit his%^$first six shots of the game, including four 3-pointers, and finished the%^$half with 16 points. Penn and Redd had all but six of Ohio State’s 25%^$points in the first half. Ohio State also turned the ball over 11 times%^$in the first half.

Noting the game with Toledo%^$
The last two OSU games have gone down to the wire with%^$Vanderbilt winning in overtime (11/28) after a tip-in at the end of%^$regulation by junior center Ken Johnson sent the game in to the extra%^$session. The loss to Toledo was the first one-point loss suffered by the%^$Buckeyes since March 1, 1997 (56-55) at Penn State. Ohio State has an%^$all-time record of 59-55 (.518) on games decided by one point.

Sophomore Michael Redd continued his string of consecutive games in%^$double figures with 16.%^$

O’Brien looking for win No. 250 %^$

UT-Martin falls to 3-5 with loss to Morehead State, 74-64%^$
Three Skyhawks scored 17-points or more against Morehead State (Dec. 5) but it%^$was not enough as Morehead claimed a 74-64 victory in Ohio Valley%^$Conference play. UT-Martin forward Joe Crumby led the Skyhawks with 19%^$points while center Ryan DeMichael and guard Jason Ohlsen each chipped%^$in 17. No other player scored more than five in the loss. The Skyhawks%^$have won two of their last three games with a 78-53 win over Bethel%^$(11/30) and a 74-63 overtime victory over conference rival Eastern%^$Kentucky (12/3). The other victory came in the season opener against%^$Lyon College, 74-56. Losses this season have come at the hands of%^$Evansville, at Bradley, at Illinois and at Mississippi State.

Ohio State to meet Skyhawks for first time%^$
The Buckeyes will face Tennessee- Martin for the first time in the history of the two schools. Michael Redd scores first Buckeye basket in Value City Arena %^$
The%^$clock showed 18 minutes, 20 seconds remaining in the first half when%^$Buckeye sophomore Michael Redd squared and launched a left-handed%^$three-pointer from the right wing. The attempt found the target, giving%^$Ohio State a 3-0 lead, marking the first official basket made at Value%^$City Arena. For Redd, it was just the start of a 29-point effort in%^$leading the Buckeyes to an 89-61 victory. Redd made the first shot in%^$each of the exhibition openers as well.

WBNS to televise three games in Puerto Rico %^$
The Buckeyes%^$will have every game on its 1998-99 schedule televised with the addition%^$of the three games in Puerto Rico Dec. 21-23. WBNS (Channel 10) will air%^$the games tape-delayed at 7 p.m. each night of the tournament. Ohio%^$State will open with Alabama-Birmingham Dec. 21 and will play either%^$N.C. State or Middle-Tennessee State Dec. 22. The opener against UAB%^$will begin at 11 a.m. EST. All OSU games will air live on WBNS Radio (AM%^$1460 and FM 97.1).
