UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Ohio State women’s soccer team dropped the Big Ten Championship match, 2-0 to No. 11 Penn State at Jeffrey Field Sunday afternoon. The Buckeyes, playing in their first-ever conference final, end the season at 13-8-1, the second best record in the history of the program. The Nittany Lions leap to 19-3-1 and earn the automatic NCAA tournament bid.%^$
%^$ Penn State midfielder Courtney Lawson netted both Nittany Lion goals and recorded four of the squad’s 20 shots on the day. She put PSU on the board first in the 26th minute, converting on a penalty kick. Lawson struck again in the 51st minute, punching in a Shari Pickett corner kick.%^$
%^$ Katie Martorella (Jr., Englewood, Colo.) paced the Buckeyes with three shots while three Nittany Lions recorded four or more shots on the day.%^$
%^$ The 1998 squad set school marks for matches played (22), shutouts (9), consecutive shutouts (5), fouls (271), penalty kicks attempted and made (2-2), opponent penalty kicks attempted and made (1-1) and tied the record for fewest goals allowed with 24.%^$
%^$ Individually, Amber Barnes (So., Fairfield, Ohio) established school season records for goals against average (1.07), shutouts (9) and consecutive shutouts (5). Becky Borchers (Sr., Dayton, Ohio) finished her OSU career second for assists (11) and fourth for goals (22), points (55) and shots (168).%^$
