Buckeye Wrestlers Compete in MSU Open – Ohio State Buckeyes

EAST LANSING, Mich. — – One Ohio State wrestler won his weight class and two others competed in the finals of their weight classes this weekend at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Michigan.
%^$Leading the charge for the Buckeyes was Sean Salmon (So., Worthington, Ohio), who was the champion of the 184 lb. weight class. Salmon won five matches en route to the title, including a 3-2 nailbiter over Andy Hrovat of Michigan in the finals.
%^$Also turning in solid performances for OSU were Matt Fratta (Sr., Willard, Ohio) and Peter Rogers (Jr., Bridgeport, Ohio). Fratta, seeded fourth in the 125 lb. weight class, won four matches before falling %^$3-1 in overtime to sixth-seeded Ahmad Sanders of Central Michigan.
%^$Also reaching the finals was Peter Rogers (Jr., Sheboygan, Wis.), who won four matches along the way at 165 pounds. Rogers lost an overtime tiebreaker in the finals to Greg DeGrand of Michigan State.
%^$Five other Ohio State wrestlers finished in the top eight. Keaton Anderson (Fr., Pickerington, Ohio) and Joel Walker (Fr., Columbus, Ohio) kicked off their Buckeye careers by finishing in third place at 133 and 165, respectively. Also placing high was Nick Preston (Fr., Columbus, Ohio), who finished in fourth place at 184. Robert Sessley (So., Columbus, Ohio) placed sixth at 133 pounds and Brian Roskovich (Jr., Bridgeport, Ohio) finished eighth at 157 pounds.
%^$The MSU Open is one of the largest collegiate wrestling tournaments in the United States, consisting of over 300 participants from nearly 20 schools and wrestling clubs. No team scores are kept in the MSU Open.
