EVANSTON, Ill. – Junior Yelena Kalkina (Almaty, Kazakhstan) took%^$first in the foil at the Remenyik Open for the OSU fencing team this past%^$weekend.

%^$The two-time All-American paced a women’s squad that posted some top%^$performances in the annual event named for Ohio State head coach Charlotte%^$Remenyik for her work with the Northwestern fencing program. Fane Groes (So.,%^$Copenhagen, Denmark) tied for third in the foil and Sally Dowding (So., South%^$Midlands, England) finished sixth. Senior Spela Pirc (Ljubijana, Slovenija)%^$notched a fifth-place finish in the epee. For the men, Geoff Kane (Vancouver,%^$Wash.) was the highest finisher with a ninth-place mark in the epee. Kane is%^$redshirting this season and will serve as the team armorer.
