COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team held a 1-0 lead to defeat Wisconsin-Green Bay at the OSU Sports Field Friday afternoon. The Buckeyes are now 9-6-1 overall while the Phoenix fall to 3-1-3.
Senior midfielder Becky Borchers (Dayton, Ohio) paved the way for the Buckeyes, blasting four shots in a dominating performance. In the 38th minute, Borchers netted the only goal of the match, taking a Tori Moore (So., Worthington, Ohio) pass and sliding into the right side of the net.
OSU outshot an injury plagued Phoenix squad 17-4, but managed just one goal as keeper Heather Friedman had a huge day, recording seven saves, most of them from point blank range. The Buckeyes also recorded 14 corner kicks, but could not convert as Friedman owned the box, darting this way and that to stop the Bucks. Amber Barnes (So., Fairfield, Ohio) recorded her fourth shutout in a row and has not been scored on since Oct. 9 at Iowa.
