Men’s NCAA Championships Up Next For the Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 9 Ohio State men’s swimming and diving program will has qualified 13 student-athletes to the 2022 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships this week at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga. The Buckeyes will compete March 23-26 for a chance at a national title.
Overall, a total of 270 participants (235 swimmers and 35 divers) will compete in the championships. Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. Divers qualified by performances achieved at the Zone Diving Championships.
The Buckeyes enter the meet after a program-best seventh-place finish in 2021. This year, the team qualified 13 student-athletes for the championships, including all five relays and five divers.
Meet Schedule
The 2022 NCAA Championship meet begins Wednesday with the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relay. Prelims on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. with finals contested at 6 p.m.

Ohio State NCAA Championship Roster
Ohio State has eight swimmers and five divers who have qualified for the NCAA Championships based on times and scores earned this season. Eight Buckeyes who earned All-America honors at the 2021 meet will return to the roster for this year’s championship.
Those making their NCAA Championship debut this week include Clay Chaplin, Chachi Gustafson, Alex Quach and Hunter Grannum. Fabio Dalu will make his first appearance at the Division I NCAA Championships, having previously won titles in the 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle and 400 IM at the Division II championships in 2021.
Hunter Armstrong and Quach lead the contingent of swimmers in individual races with three apiece. Armstrong, a native of Dover, Ohio, will compete in the 50 and 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke while Sydney, Australia native Quach will compete in the 100 and 200 fly and 200 IM.
Divers competing on all three boards include Jake Fielding, Lyle Yost and Chaplin.

OSU at the NCAA Championships
Last year, the Buckeyes earned their best back-to-back finish at the national meet with a seventh-place result. The team cracked the top-10 in 2019 with a ninth-place finish. OSU’s 2021 result was the best in 65 years, when Ohio State finished fifth in 1965.
Ohio State has won 11 team titles in program history with its first NCAA championship earned in 1943. Overall, the program has collected 119 event titles with 60 from swimming and 59 from diving.
How To Watch
ESPN3 will provide digital broadcast coverage for preliminary and finals sessions Wednesday through Saturday. Additionally, ESPNU will air a two-hour show at 6 p.m. ET, Tuesday, April 5.
