McGinty Wins Individual Crown, Buckeyes 2nd at Westbrook Invite

FINAL RESULTS

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State picked a great time to card its lowest round in program history. The Buckeyes posted a final round 276 (-12) to finish runner-up at the Westbrook Invitational at the Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Ariz.

Junior Caley McGinty claimed her first victory as a Buckeye as she carded a final round 67 to earn a share of medalist honors. After making her lone bogey of the day at No. 11, she finished with three birdies in her final five holes to jump to the top of the leaderboard. McGinty finished the week with three under-par rounds of 70-70-67 to finish at 9-under par. The final round 67 was also her first round in the 60s as a Buckeye.

Freshman Kary Hollenbaugh continued her impressive start as she also fired a final round 67 to finish a shot behind McGinty at 8-under par. For the week, she posted rounds of 70-71-67 and was tied with McGinty with 13 birdies over the 54 holes.

Senior Lauren Peter posted her career-low round on Monday as she too carded a 5-under 67. The Carmel, N.Y., native had quite the round, making six birdies over a seven hole stretch and wound up with a total of eight birdies on the day. She finished tied for 20th at even par.

Aneka Seumanutafa carded a final round 78 and finished in a tie for 49th at 6-over par while Faith Choi continued her steady play, posting rounds of 76-75-75 to finish at 10-over par.

Jillian Bourdage, who played as an individual this week, was the fourth Buckeye to post a round in the 60s on Monday as she fired a bogey-free, final round 4-under 68. She was one of just three players without a bogey over the final 18 holes. The 68 was the lowest round of Bourdage’s career and she finished the week tied with Peter at even par.

As a team, the Buckeyes carded rounds of 286-288-276 to finish runner-up. The 276 was the best round of the year by seven shots and it bested the previous program record by two shots. For the week, the Buckeyes led the field in birdies made with 48.

The Buckeyes will return to action in three weeks as it will cap spring break week with another trip to Arizona for the Mountain View Collegiate at the Mountain View GC in Tucson.
