COLUMBUS, Ohio – While many Ohio State basketball fans are waiting for the National Basketball Association Draft Thursday night to see where Evan Turner ends up, Mark Titus beat him to the podium when he was taken by the Harlem Globetrotters in their annual draft earlier this week.
From the Globetrotters: Mark “The Shark” Titus originally joined the Ohio State men’s basketball program as a team manager, but his shooting prowess (coach Thad Matta called him the best shooter on the team) soon earned him a spot on the Buckeyes’ playing roster. One of the top pure shooters in the state of Indiana during his high school career in his hometown of Brownsburg, the 6-4 guard joined the Buckeyes just prior to the start of their record-setting 2006-07 campaign. Titus also has plenty of experience in the entertainment aspect of being a Globetrotter, becoming a cult phenomenon via his popular “Club Trillion” blog and various YouTube videos.
Titus, who is still recovering from shoulder surgery in March, will have the opportunity to join the team for training camp in September to vie for a roster spot and is hopeful to play a crucial role once the season begins Dec. 26.
“We’ll talk and I’ll figure out what they want from me,” Titus told the Dispatch earlier this week. “If they want me to be a serious player, there could be some problems. But if they want me to be the guy who throws the bucket of confetti, I’m good at that.”
Joining Titus in the 2010 draft class are Anthony Johnson and Shaunte Nance-Johnson, a husband and wife tandem from the University of Montana where they both starred on their respective teams, as well as 2010 College Slam Dunk Champion Marqus Blakely (Vermont), Slam Dunk runner-up Chris Roberts (Bradley) and Southern Methodist University point guard Derek Williams.
